What you need
to look out for are the pay per click search engines you want
to advertise on! There are 3 different types:
1.) Tier one: Google and Overture
2.) Tier two: MIVA, Mirago
3.) Tier three: ABCSearch; GoClick, and all that rubbish...
Now I highly
recommend you stick to tier one only. If you are really
desperate about traffic then experiment with tier two also
BUT pay very close attention to your conversions because
quality of traffic you get from tier two search engines is
nowhere near compared to tier one! You will get a lot
of clicks/traffic but almost no conversions, so you basically
through your money out of the window. The reason for
this is simple: Those second and third tier search engines
are sometimes highly affected by click fraud, which means a
lot of people just click your ad without the intention of
looking at your site and killing your budget. Its also know
that some search engines even pay users to click on your ads.
So stick with tier one and here I would highly recommend
google for many reasons. Google is the biggest search engine
and covers about 50 percent of all search engine traffic and
it rewards the smart advertiser. While you will only be
listed at the number one position in Overture if your bid is
the highest, you can actually be number one in google and
only pay 1/3 of the highest bidding. How is that possible?
Well, Google uses a certain formula to list their ads and one
factor is know as the CTR (Click Through Rate). If you f.e.
pay 3$ per click for the term "home business" and you have a
1% CTR and I pay 1$ for this term but I have a CTR of 3,1%,
guess what: I will outrank you and be number one!
Why you dont want to be at the number one position
Dont be fooled
that you always need to be at the number one position. Make
some tests, especially with your conversions. You will find
out that your conversion will actually increase if you are
listed at position number 2-5. The reason for this is that
many people who dont have a real desire for buying mostly
click on the first ad they see and that could hurt your
budget.
Make several campaigns
What is absolutely critical is that you create several
different campaigns. Each campaign should target one certain
key phrase and its variations. Here is an example: Say you
want to advertise the term "make money". What you need to do
is add all similar terms like "make money online", "make
money online with affiliate programīs" and so on. Dont put
the keywords "home based business" in that campaign. Create a
different campaign for all those other terms.
Put the main
keywords in the title of the ad
What
you also must to in order get most out of your ads is put the
main keywords of each campaign in your title. In the example
mentioned this would be "make money" and some other text.
Also make sure you use as many keywords in the whole ad as
possible but still make the ad catchy for the readers.
Use the tools of the pros to do keyword research
The absolutely most critical part is definitely choosing
the right keywords. Its fine if you target terms like "work
at home" or "affiliate program" but those terms are pretty
expensive. What you want is targetted traffic for the least
amount of your hard earned dollars. Therefore targetting the
term "work at home business opportunity" will likely get you
less clicks but the bid price is also way less and if with
the tools of the pros, youīll find thousands of keywords with
little or no competition.
